Ediacaran biota dominated the seafloor
Over time, sponges created coral reefs and increased the oxygen level of the whole ocean. However, while they were arguably the most prominent life forms on the seafloor back then, they weren’t the only ones to survive in that particular habitat.

About 580 million years ago, during the Ediacarn Period, sea creatures with bodies shaped as fronds, ribbons, and even quilts lived alongside sponges. Scientists found proof of this coexistence between different species in sedimentary rocks found on various beaches worldwide.
