They are nocturnal
Ferrets, like many other Mustelidae family members, are nocturnal. This means they sleep most of the day and become active at night. Their active cycle is usually between dusk and dawn, but they can be seen during the day if their sleep cycle is disrupted.
Being nocturnal helps ferrets avoid predators in the wild because predators find it much more difficult to find them in the dark. And since these animals require a different sleep schedule than humans, this behavior can make it difficult to keep them as pets.
