The real problem
In some areas of the country, the prevalence of pigs has spawned a hog-hunting industry, with people paying thousands of dollars to mow down boar and sow with machine guns. However, the overall impact of pigs has been negative, as the undiscerning swine has chomped its way across the country.

“We see direct competition for food for our native species,” said Michael Marlow, assistant program manager for the USDA’s national feral swine damage management program. However, pigs are also considered skilled predators. They will come across a hidden animal by chance and can run and grab one with their mouth.
