From Selena Gomez to Ian Somerhalder, These Celebrities Have All Rescued Their Pets

While buying a cute Chihuahua you like may not be anything special, it’s a big deal to adopt a rescue animal. Rescue animals are animals that have been rendered homeless due to different situations- and some celebrities have taken in these animals to care for them. This article is dedicated to those celebrities who adopted rescue animals.

Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler is one of those people who don’t just adopt rescue animals because they have to; she’s passionate about it. Chelsea formerly had two adopted rescue dogs, Tammy and Chunk, but they died in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Then she promised on Instagram to get another rescue dog to remember the dogs that had passed away. About a week after Chunk’s death, Chelsea adopted two rescue dogs, Bert and Bernice. She posted photos of the two dogs on her Instagram.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez was the fur mom to five adopted rescue dogs in 2010, her reason being that many dogs needed homes. Well, she’s still in the business of adopting rescue dogs today.

During the first wave of the pandemic in 2020, the singer adopted a rescue puppy named Daisy. On her social media, she explained that Daisy and her dog Winnie were getting along fine.

Queen Consort Camilla

On the cover of their July issue in 2022, Country Life featured Queen Consort Camilla’s royal rescue dogs- they were even wearing her pearls. In 2017, Queen Consort Camilla adopted two dogs (Bluebell and Beth) from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London.

In a BBC interview, the former Duchess of Cornwall explained that one of her adopted dogs, Bluebell, was found wandering in the woods in a poor physical condition. However, she confirmed that Bluebell had become a sweet and healthy dog.

Ian Somerhalder

Ian Somerhalder and his now wife, Nikki Reed, adopted Sohalia, a cat that would have been put down if she wasn’t adopted. The actor shared how the cat was wildly mislabeled on his social media.

He said Sohalia was tagged ‘feral,’ and he wouldn’t have known how adorable she was if Nikki hadn’t insisted on opening her cage regardless. The “Vampire Diaries” actor’s story gave people an insight into how helpless rescue animals are.

Zac Efron

The story of Zac Efron and his adopted dog is one that wasn’t planned but happened anyway. In 2018, Zac Efron adopted his rescue dog, MACA, through a humane pet shop in Los Angeles.

According to the shop, MACA would have been euthanized if Zac hadn’t fostered her. However, Efron had become so attached to MACA that he couldn’t give her back, so he adopted her instead. They’ve been friends since then.
