When did they become extinct?
They became extinct 65 million years ago, after a 165-million-year existence on Earth. If all of Earth’s time from the beginning of the dinosaurs to the present were compressed into 365 days, dinosaurs would appear on January 1 and go extinct in the third week of September.
But what caused dinosaurs to go extinct? Evidence points to an asteroid impact as the primary culprit. Volcanic eruptions that caused large-scale climate change and more gradual changes to the Earth’s climate that occurred over millions of years could all have played a role.
