In 2007, bees were put under the spotlight thanks to Dreamworks’ Bee Movie. However, although this animated film tried to show us that the world as we know it wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for these little creatures, people still don’t give them enough credit for their hard work. So, we’ve decided to compile eight buzzing facts that will hopefully make you appreciate the magnificence of bees and the importance of their jobs. Read on to discover them!
They have more eyes than you think
When we think of a bee’s anatomy, most of us picture this little insect with no more than two eyes, much like flies and mosquitoes. Nonetheless, you’d be surprised to know that this isn’t exactly true.
Incredible as it may seem, bees have five eyes; two large compound eyes for picking up shapes and colors in the immediate environment and three smaller ocelli eyes in the center of their heads for navigation and orientation. Who would’ve thought?
